It's never worked for me. You have to have SOME sort of common thread between the two of you.

However, there are times when opposites are good. I dated a guy who was a clean freak and a great cook whilst I'm a pig and I hate to cook. He did the cooking and cleaning so it worked great

We still had most everything else in common though.

Possible? Yes - also depends on whether the differences become a debate daily. Being different will make it interesting - who wants to be with their exact equal? I think the fundamental stuff you should have a common view in - family, house, respect, etc...
