Poker players - what do you think of this hand?

I'm playing No Limit Hold Em at Harrah's in New Orleans.

Blinds are $5 and $5 (two big blinds)

I'm dealt pocket tens in middle position.
Raise to $50

It gets folded around to the big blind who just calls. (He's short stacked)

Flop comes K 10 K.

I try not to cream my pants.
Usually on a hand like this you try to figure out how to extract the maximum amount of money possible from your opponents.
Usually by checking or betting weak and then coming back over the top of someone trying to steal the pot.

I was heads up against a guy with about $150 left....so I just bet enough to put him all in. (I'm hoping he has a hand like AK, there's no way you fold that hand on this flop)
He calls without taking half a second to think about it.

We flip the cards over....he has AJ!!!!!!
WTF was he thinking???? As quickly as he called I thought for sure he had a K and made a set on the flop.

Anyways
Turn comes J (K 10 K)
He has two pair but I still have a full house.....I'm already spending the money in my mind.

River comes K (J K 10 K)

He ends up with Kings full of Jacks to beat my Kings full of Tens.....that had to be the worst suck out of my life.

Of course this guy didn't last very long playing the way he did, he busted out about 45 minutes later and left....unfortunately I didn't catch a hand for quite some time after that so someone else got to relieve him of his chips.

I hate beats like that. Not quite as bad but last friday I got toasted for around $200 by someone going all in with pocket 2's before me sitting with pocket aces while I was in the big blind. I'm thinking oh yeah payoff time but then SHE flops not one but two ducks for the 4 of a kind ass raping from hell for my Aces. I'm from Baton Rouge by the way.

Always blows when odds get beaten. But over time odds are the better bet.

Thats a bad beat, but not as bad as when I lost w/ 4 3's to a str8 flush at the Union Plazza . It still hurts to think about it!

They don't have the bad beat jackpot here in the no limit game....but they have it for all the others.

Poker isn't gambling. That's been proven in a court of law.
Its a skill game.

You can have a poker game at your house and the cops can't do anything....but if you have a roulette wheel and craps game going at your house you could get arrested.

Yeah whats that about having a full house cracked at some particular casino? You can pick up 30K for it and the table splits 30 between themselves.

I got beat at Commerce Casino in LA this week. I had 2 pair of the flop and got beat on the river with a gut-shot straight.

I fucking hate losing to morons.

That's one thing I really liked about the no limit game, the quality of the players was much better.

In the low limit 3-6 or 4-8 games your pocket aces only hold up about a third of the time because 5 idiots stay in until the river...you can't scare them off.

In the no limit game you can bet enough to protect your hands pre-flop or on the flop so people throw the gutshot draws and runner runner flush draws away.

In my first hour at the table I watched a guy muck pocket jacks face up when the flop came KQ7 and someone made a big bet.

Then another guy mucked pocket aces face up into a $500 pot when three clubs came on the flop and the other player moved all in. (It was a good fold too, the other guy had AQ of clubs)

You'd never see hands like that get mucked in a low limit game.

Just proves odds and statistics mean shit. Most of the time, until the 5th card is dealt, the card game can go to anyone, and usually goes to the cocksucker who's been around since last week playing some shit like 2c 8d.

Agreed.

Like I said before, that guy got lucky that hand, but he was broke and out of the game within an hour afterwards.

I took a hit on that hand but played for about 7 hours and did make back what I lost on that hand.

Well, it WAS a 7 stud game & there was a 34k jackpot. I jumped up out of my seat thinking I just won it.....BUT the jackpot rules at the Plazza were "You have to get beat w/ 4 Jacks or better".

(this was 6 yeras ago, but I think the rules are still the same there)

That sucks... bad beat but he did stay in with a good had and probley said fuck it i either go home now or get lucky. I feel your pain.
