"The Da Vinci Code (movie)" -- Tom Hanks to lead cast

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Tom Hanks is expected to step into the scholarly shoes of Robert Langdon, the professor who unravels the mystery of the Holy Grail in the film version of Dan Brown's phenomenally successful novel "The Da Vinci Code."

Hanks has emerged as director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer's top choice for the lead role in the film, which Columbia Pictures hopes to begin shooting next year. And talks have begun for the actor to join the project.

OMG that's cool... that book was awesome!

But movies usually pale in comparison to the book version

Hanks has certainly excelled in his field and i can't think no other actor which can perform such difficult role

I like Tom Hanks but I have a hard time visualizing him as Robert Langdon. I see more of a Dennis Quaid or George Clooney type.

In my opinion Angels and Demons was a better book, probably the best i've ever read, but The Da Vinci Code is a CLOSE second.. If anyone can play the role its Tom Hanks..

ive read them both...they were awesome...angels and demons would make a wicked movie as well.

Tom hanks will be ok as Robert Langdon...it is more important to pull of the smart professor role, as he rarely has to kick any ass.

trust me, Tom is the only guy in Hollywood who can portray even the most diificult script ever made. he'll be fine

That would be terrific!!! i couldn't think of any appropriate actor to potray such role other than Mr. Hanks. But I do wish that Hollywood people don't make it as habit. To make every religious novel into a movie. It might ruin the values and the real message of the novel.

I can see Oscar's name written all over this with Tom Hanks.
