    Photoshop training question

Hey everyone..... I want to take some training courses
for photoshop. Question is, would it be better to take an
actual class somewhere or do these training CD's actually
    work?
I found one that looks pretty good for $100
    http://www.computer-training-softwar...otoshop-cs.htm

    Any info would be helpful

    Thanks

Buy the program, buy a book and teach yourself.

I took a Photoshop class at a specialized "art" school and it helped a lot. Also, I highly recommend looking into the tutorial tapes from https://www.totaltraining.com .

If money is an object, I would start with the tapes. Good luck!!

Save the money and just screw with it until you figure it out. Didn't take me long at all to be proficient in it. If you ever hit a brick wall, you can easily look things up on the Internet.

Start with a PS book that focus' on what you will do most. Whether that is photo processing, creating banners, whatever.

Then, there are hundreds of tutorials on the web.

Here is a site to get you started:

          http://www.good-tutorials.com/

See if you can learn from them. If so, forget the courses and training CDs.

And when you use a tool for the first time in a tutorial, spend a few minutes to understand the various ways it can be used.

In two years, you will be a master at PS!

Depends on HOW you learn, and how NATURAL you are with it. Get the program, play around for a week or so. If you feel like you naturally can navigate and operate the program, and make small strides in developing your knowledge....I'd stick to doing it yourself and just looking up tutorials when you get in a rut. Worked very well for me.

On the other hand, if you have constantly been educated the "traditional" methods for developing a skillset (high school, college, buy books, teacher, lesson plans, structure, etc)... and are more comfortable in this realm, buy the books and videos, without a doubt. There is no better program to waste time on than Pshop and other graphics programs.

Everyone is different, do what suits you and your background most appropriately.

BTW: this will take you years, so don't get frustrated...wake up everyday KNOWING you're going to produce something better than the day before....... then everyday will always be satisfying as opposed to discouraging.

              my 2.

SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60. Let me repeat... A 120 x 60 button and no more that 3 lines of DEFAULT SIZE AND COLOR text.

Trust me ... go with the tapes from Total Training. Trying it on your own and through a book is ok, but there is nothing like watching somebody 'walk' you through it on a video button by button.

Thank you everyone for the info! I started out using Ulead Photoimpact
and I'm really looking forward to learning photoshop. It's by far
                      the best program I've seen.
