My source is the EPA which, after failing to conduct it's own study, concluded that 3,000 people a year die from second hand smoke. The same year (1992) as the EPA report was released, the number of deaths in the US from alcohol related traffic incidents was 16,293 according to the 1992 Dec Week 1 issue of the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. This figure does not include alcohol related deaths due to any internal organ failure. It does not include anyone who gets raging drunk and hauls off and beats his wife to death. Which do you figure is more dangerous? The second hand smoke in the bar, or the liquer? NOW. I dont propose we ban alcohol. I dont propose we ban smoking either. Does porn kill 3000 people a year? I dunno. I think its possible to argue that broken relationships from porn addictions might lead to either alcoholism or suicide. I think its nearly impossible to prove any numbers in this claim though, so I presented the one above. |
I will stop smoking in the pub when non smokers stop driving there. I only use public transport.
Who is putting more noxious fumes into the atmosphere? As well as killing people in accidents etc..... perhaps I should call myself a passive driver to get something done? |
