I don't believe that anyone deserves to be punched, hit or slapped. We are not animals or primates for that matter. That we cannot talk/converse in a formal and humane way. Probably its a man's way of proving their point. Or its just that, they don;t want there masculinity be put to a test. That, the only way they know how to reciprocate is to hit/punch someone. Though man and woman are equals, not everything they do or how they act towards someone are totally the same. Each of us reacts to situations differently.
