I watched SuperSizeMe

Jesus,
I will not only heavily reduce eating at MCD and BK, I will also stop drinking sodas whenever I can.
So whenever I'm out partying and don't want to drink a beer, I will order a water instead of a coke.

You know you can order a water and a salad at Mcdonalds. Wonder what would have happened to him if he had made smart choices? Perhaps it is the choices you make in life that affect your health when it comes to nutrition.

i think the point he was making is that people at large fail to understand the harm in the choices they are making.

"ya, that big salat had the same amount of calories as a bigmac."

Funny he didn't order the salad in the movie. If their salad has too many sugars, and you are a grown up person, you can decide you shouldn't eat there. Then, you would not ruin your health by eating there.

You know, you could go to the grocery store, and eat the candy they sell each meal for 30 days, and I bet it would be bad for you too. Does that mean the grocery store is at fault somehow?

Actually a lot of it IS mcdonald's fault. I've done a lot of debating about this because I'm a fitness trainer.

You can NOT expect people to research information themselves. It is human nature unfortunately, and especially in this day n' age no one wants to do what it takes to learn about nutrition. Although most of everyone knows that fast food isn't good for you, the large majority of people don't know exactly how BAD it is and how frequent eating (3 times a week even) can result in serious negative health conditions down the road.

People DO care about their health, why do you think we all brush our teeth? Because we fear the negative health consequences of NOT. But why do people eat so much mcdonalds? I mean, we DO care about our health, it IS human nature to protect our body. Ahh, because of a lack of knowledge on the subject.

So to an extent, it is part of mcdonald's fault because they don't care to make it an effort to educate exactly how bad their food is - of course though, that would mean less money for them. The government is also to blame for part of the situation, with the advancements we have in nearly every industry, why is it that everyone is so fat in America? The obvious answer is "Because American's are lazy and don't give a shit" - But I believe the root of the problem comes from the lack of intelligence regarding nutrition - because it goes against government interest. - keeping people fat and unhealthy = MONEY.

Sad but true.

But things are starting to change, in the next 10 to 20 years you will see more educational programs regarding fitness - especially in the schools and they're already beginning to ban soda/pop machines.

possible yeah... but still the movie delivers an important msg.
Of course I was aware of the unhealthiness of fast food.... everybody knows... but I had no clue HOW bad it really is. I'm glad I know a little bit more now.
that's why I think it was worth it... I'm no fan of drama queens either but I though the flick had some valueable infos.

I think this movie was important because it made people stop and think, just as people have admitted here. The problem with poor eating habits is the same like with smoking or drinking excessively... that you don't see an immediate negative effect.

In the fast food/obesity debate, i was always one to say it is the fault of the ignorant people who eat like that. The movie however, raised what I feel to be a few valid points.

First, McDonalds targets primarily children... not adults. A 4-6-or 8 or 10 year old does not know what good/bad food is... they just know they want it. Of course the parent should be the first to explain to them that its terrible but that is not consistent with the way people behave.

That made me think for a while. It make me feel in the end, that type of behavior is not only deeply irresponsible, but that maybe the government should be looking at stopping it. If you know anything about physiology and nutrition, you know that eating patterns can have a direct impact on the foods you crave and often even cause addictive behaviors.

The second, important point made me think was the total amount of advertising spent by the fast food industry annually which is in the Billions (not including candy, soft drink and other companies) cannot possibly be effectively countered by any "education". How can a person really be expected to how harmful it is or even the fact that you should NEVER eat any of that shit, when you are bombarded with constant advertising with a message to the contrary? Remember the Snickers commercial where some guy would be saying how he was running out of energy but luckily he had a Snickers bar? Thats the type of advertising i mean. If you see something like that and similar advertising messages by the thousands daily as the average American does, is the average person likely to understand that you should never eat a snickers bar for any possible reason?

The fact is, this guy released this movie and McDonalds immediately changed their menu across the country. That in and of itself is quite an achievement.

McDonalds just used the controversy to get brownie points while increasing their bottom line. 2 large fries is about the size of a supersize, but costs more.
