BAD NEWS, BRING THE 250GIGS SATA BACK NOW!!!

They suck, only corrupted data, theres no good 250 gig sata on earth, all companies now the problems.

Im having 10 here, and did order 10 more one week ago, still same problems in all pcs.

Did try alot of differnt brands no luck. Everything above 120GIG sucks. and thats old news. if you want to have SAFE DATA on your disks.

Hey guys,

It was a bitch to build, but its a fucking insane system, heres the specs.

-Dual Intel Xeon 3.4EA GHz with EMT64, 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache
-2 gigs ECC DDR ram
-700 Watt Power supply
-ATI PCI Express 256MB 800XT Radeon video card
-3ware PCI SATA 4 Port raid card
-Pioneer DVD burner
-all the other typical pc parts

The main system is on a raid 0 with two 10,000 rpm Raptor SATA hard drives, then there is another 700Gigs of storage on 4 250Gig SATA drives in a Raid 5 Array.

The whole thing is tied together in a Koolance Water cooling case. Both processors have a water block and then it runs to all six of the hard drives.

That temp that you see on the front is the temp of the processor, which means that even after running through two friggin hot processors and 6 hard drives, its still able to keep it running relatively cool.

It can do all this and still be extremely quiet.
The joys of a water cooled case.

Yea, I kinda figured duke aint going to be playing many games on the chubbs, plus I was already at my max for the recomended amount of water blocks. The fan and heat sink unit on the video card is pretty impressive as it is. but I did think about doing one though :-)

How many years till you sell it at a garage sale?

I say 5-7 years:(

Fuck it, i'll just have another one made. Plus I can write off it's depreciation and everything. 5-7 years is a long ass time in PC years, and $6.5k isnt alot of money..

thatīs a bad ass system you got, have fun with it :thumbsup

Jim_Gunn 11-09-2004 10:26 PM

That's a cool computer. But I have to wonder, how much real world rendering and encoding speed inrease is that going to translate to in reality as compared to, say, a top of the line Dell Win XP desktop with a single hyperthreaded 2.6 Ghz P4, a Gb+ of RAM and several large external firewire drives for video storage that costs less than half that price? Just to give an idea, my system, roughly as described above, renders a 40 minute video with minimal effects using Adobe Premiere Pro, in just over half-time, around 22 minutes. I'd be curious to hear what app you are running and what kind of speeds you are getting with a monster system like that.

How fast can you run Notepad?
