minimum content for a $9.99 site??

What's the very least I could get away with starting a (GAY) paysite priced at $9.99? I'm shooting all of the content. Keep in mind it's EXTREMELY nichy niche gay, not just typical gay content.

Also, someone told me I shouldn't price at $9.99 because the number doesn't look like "quality" in the eyes of the surfer. The advice I was given was to price at $14.99 or higher. Is this true?

I find that getting affiliates to push a cheap site isn't nearly as easy as a more expensive one.

An extremly nichy site can probably get away with being smaller, but I'd try to have at least a dozen episodes.

If its exclusive content why would you want to charge so little?
If its under 10 episodes I would try maybe 15-18$ range and see how that works out.

Maybe get a feel for it and see if its worth producing more content for the site or what direction to take.
You can always test out different price points as the site grows or based on initial conversions.

One thing that will be hard is recruiting affiliates for a site that charges so little.

Most webmasters need to be dazzled with 40+$ payouts lol...too bad they cant see wher the real money is

I'm not worried about affiliates right now. I'll be pushing it myself.

thats true, you can have similar ratios with a much more expensive price, so why sell it so cheap? Gay site? Dont go below 29.95...

Well the reason for the cheap price is because I want to get this site off the ground like *yesterday*. I have 3 models lined up right now for it, and I can shoot all the content this week. I just want get SOMETHING out there instead of having nothing which is what I have now.

I'm just trying to figure out if 18 photo sets, and 3 solo videos will be enought to entertain the surfers initially. The site will be updated weekly with 6 new sets, and 1 new video. I think $9.99 is fair enough for them not to feel ripped off, and the updates should keep them from canceling.

I just remembered I have 26 extra sets of content and 10 videos that I shot myself sitting on the shelf that have very little exposure. Is that enough for filler content? They don't fit the niche of the site exactly.

That's what I've always asserted. I had this argument once with a paysite owner whose membership was very underpriced; You've got to convince people that you've got quality...

btw, the paysite's gone and I'm still around.

Ok so here's my cards:

18 photo sets and 3 solo videos of the exclusive niche content.
26 photo sets and 10 solo videos of the semi-exclusive filler content.

What would be appropriate for pricing?

Looks like 10 $ sites were kinda a failure ... not enough for affiliates to make good money

My suggestion is if the price is that low, you should really look into generating your own niche content.

6 pic sets and 1 vid update could be spread out with a daily update and a once a week vid update.. Should be good for retention. Starting out a bit small it wouldn't hurt to show them your updates schedule with a thumbnail if possible. Keeps them wanting to see something that's coming up.

19.99 is good, but 9.99? Subtract your processing fees and that's way too cheap and especially with exclusive content that will have your site growing daily.

just my

I wouldn't go any lower then $29.99. Since it's exclusive and super niche I'd go to $34.99.

I raised the price of my exclusive content sites from $19.99/month and $4.95/5 day trial to $34.99/month and $9.99/3 day trial and saw all my ratios go up! not down. Price really doesn't mean much to a surfer with a hardon. Take the advice - NO LOWER THEN $29.99!!!!!

$24.95 + add some sticky content (ie: message board). I bet that would do great in a micro niche members area. Also wouldn't hurt to add some live feeds from videosecrets.com, pornication.com etc and collect on the upsells.

It's not only about having niche or exclusive content, it's also about having good content.

Shoot it badly and no one will be interested, shoot it well and they will not care about the price so much.

But $9.99 does sound a bit cheap. How many models can you get hold of to shoot might be a factor. This is a niche site not a single male site I'm thinking?

Just start with 9.95 and say that it's a limited deal only for the launch of the site - let's say for the first 200 members. Then when you have more content just increase the price.

adult entertainment is probably one of the only industries where price doesn't matter too much. if the surfer is willing to use their credit card online in the first place, and they really like your content that's almost a guaranteed sale

Or if you really want to stick to your $9.95 pricing plan, offer limited acces... say one video a month with the $9.95 price point. Give the option to upgrade for full access for $20-$30.

Yes, of course the amount of models is a factor. Fortunately I have them lining up at my door for this particular niche. It's great, I just need to test the sales.

I think this is the price point I'll try first. I just don't want to end up with any unnecessary chargebacks. I want to be on the side of good value with the surfer, rather than charging more and being of questionable value. Goal being long-term retention of course. I'd rather have a $14.99 subscriber for 8 months than a $34.99 for only 2.
