"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush will renew a quest in his second term for a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage as essential to a "hopeful and decent" society, his top political aide said on Sunday."

Eleven states voted AGINST gay marriage to the point of amending their State Constitutions. The people that spoke, spoke loudly on the subject.

For the record - I always thought the GOP was for less government! Further, this is a STATE issue. Further yet, what business does anyone have telling a gay couple they can't enjoy the benefits of marriage? I hope even 12clicks agrees.

I will be contacting my representatives and the President and let my feelings be known. I am not sure the constitutional amendment at the federal level would make it past the Supreme Court? I hope the State Amendments meet their fall in the supreme court as well. Even if Bush packs the court.

I know this has been beaten into the ground already, but that article pissed me off.

I suggest all let their positions be known, not on GFY, but in emails and letters to your representatives. This will sound naïve, but I really believe it can make a difference.

Things are going to get worse for gays in america now that bush doesn't need to worry about re-election...

why can't people understand that this is an extention of the civil rights movement?

let's look at this...

White People
Gay People
Black People

they all have a very simple thing in common.

they're all people. and they all deserve equal rights.

it is a shame to see people not care about this

cause this is just the beginning....what happens if this does go through, and they do AMEND the constitution of the united states to say that gays cannot marry or have equal rights

what is next?

maybe next they will try and ban alternative religions other than christianity based ones that have a god structure...and then we can go back to the salem witch trial days where people were accused of being witches and burned alive

wake up people, just because you don't care about this topic doesn't mean your topic isn't next....and if you fight this one, you may never have to fight for yours

it is about the principal of it all, not only the issue

fighting against ppl having the same rights just wont work in the long run... read history...

but i cant understand why gays want to have a christian church marrige... christianity dont like gays... its right there in the bible... if u dont like it then ur not christian by faith... im not.

create a way for gays to get married under the state and let that marrige constitute the same rights as a church marrige in every legal aspect.. and let the reiligions keep their faiths and rules so that more ppl can wakeup and see the religions for what they realy are...

and if u think that religions and the bible is needed for moral in a society i have some other books that belong on the list... like humpty dumpty, little red riding hood,

to me a gay man wanting to get married under a christian banner is like a jewish kid wanting to join hitler jugend.

Lets get the homeless off the streets, the sick who are unable to afford medicare, healed, the kids who dont have teachers, taught, the elderly who cant afford prescription drugs, medicated.

There are far more important topics that need to be addresses before we start worrying whether two guys or two women can legally marry at this mometnt in time.

I just do not understand what they are so afraid of?! Gay people do not want to marry them!!! Jesus, what is the harm REALLY of allowing two people in love to get married???? Straight people fuck up their own marriages maybe gay people could teach US a thing or two.
