Oh so it's for a server, not for a desktop?

FreeBSD. More robust, more secure.

I read server in to it. Desktop = windows. Some can get along with linux.

OK here is one - Linux is free, Win servers are not.

Agree, but I'm not a real guru. Might find more support online for Linux?

They're both very close to each other. The biggest difference is that BSD is older and Linux is currently being developed by a wider base of people.

Why are you trying to choose?

If it is just a simple comparison between 2 different hosts, I would say look at other aspects of the hosts before looking at the differences between BSD and Linux.

If you need some help with what features really matter in a host, shoot me off an ICQ 124-249-781

It's much easier to find support for Linux when you need it

FreeBSD is small, stable, fast, thinking and there has only been one security hole found in it in its entire existence, which has since been fixed. 'Nuff said.

Ive never used BSD as for a desktop. Im currently using Fedora Core 2 (redhat) and havent had any major hang ups yet.

I just realized redhat has apt-get which makes updating A LOT easier then having to download rmps and source packages. Im sure BSD has it also.
