I read a article in PC MAGAZINE while i was sitting on the toilet this morning...

Something about a "skeleton key" some people are working on that will basically make any form of encrytion useless and isolete.

Hmmmmmmm so basically this skeleton key is the thing that will make anything open.

Thoughts?

Here is the article online

I've heard of this possibility before. I think that one day, current bit encryption will be compromised. However, will it really be that big of a deal or just an adjustment?

If an elusive "skeleton key" was developed to compromise security, it would only be usefully on systems that totally relied on bit encryption.

For example, my server requires that I not only provide a password and am attempting to log in using a computer with a known MAC address, I also need an RSA token key to log in. My local bank machine requires that I know a 4 digit number in addition to having my Debit Card inserted.

So there are a few different forms of bit, stage, and physical encryption going on. If a skeleton key was developed, I would certainly be concerned, but I wouldn't worry about it for too long.
