ATTN: Webmasters are loosing because of bad cookie handling
Ok, this problem was not a problem before, because ie6 was only a beta, but now it is in the pick of the month on windows update, and this mean, alot of people will download it.
Now the P3P in it, killes all non compliant cookies, and unless programs track the sales by other means of cookies, then we are all losing sales. This is not to bash anyone because it's obviously not the fault of sponsors, but now that they are aware of it, they need to upgrade their cookies handling. ** No need for pictures since it does not seem to be a problem ** [This message has been edited by wiZd0m (edited 09-06-2001).] |

I am aware of Microsoft's new privacy settings.
According to Microsoft, the medium (default) settings should accept all first-party cookies without a published privacy policy. What you demonstrate is to the contrary, and we are verfifying it. The good news is that IE6 has been out for a week, so not many people have it. |

WHATTHEFUCK! I can't believe that Wizdom deliberately tried to MISLEAD everyone here.
We just installed IE6 on THREE PCs with the default settings, and NONE OF OUR COOKIES were rejected with the default settings. In fact, of the SIX privacy settings that you can select, only #5 or #6(reject all cookies) reject the cookies. And 99.9% of users will not set their machines on these settings. So WHATTHEFUCK Wizdom? You DIDN'T mention that you SET the settings to HIGH, which is two notches above the default setting of #3. Gee? Why don't you bitch about IE5 too? It has a reject cookie setting also. Yes, I'm pissed. [This message has been edited by Lensman (edited 09-06-2001).] |

I've been using IE6 for months and my cookie settings are medium (default) and what I always see is an exlamation point on my status bar. When I double click that then a window opens up saying something about a privacy policy conflicts with my settings. So I don't know if it is accepting them or not but I can access the page with no problems. I know the first time I saw it I opened it up and looked at it as I assume most will. But I didn't change anything. That might be more of a concern, that surfers will change it when they start investigating what the new exclamation point on the status bar is.

We've also been doing some testing Lens -- had to re-write a bit of Javascript yesterday to accomodate IE 6 as a matter of fact --
we've noticed NO issues with our cookies and the browser, and we have specifically tested for it -- |

I was getting the cookie errors too as soon as i installed w.o touching any security settings. i guess if you had your security settings on high on the older IE then they are high after installing the new version?

It's better to be aware of a potential problem, and look into it, than to be sitting like a fool with a false sense of security that everything's fine and dandy.
er, what's that? better safe than sorry? yeah, that's it. what javascript did you guys have to change for IE6? Anything general that the masses should now? |
