    Alexa ranking???

    I have heard many things about this and how it is a true determining source for how much traffic a site gets.

    I would like to know what you all think or know about this.

              As far as i know, and correct me if im wrong ... but Alexa's stats are only generated by users who have installed the alexa toolbar?

              Granted thats alot of people of course, but that certainly affords a significant margin of error if you are looking for accurate stats of how certain sites are performing.

              Be interested to know the exact details ...

                                  Yes, not everyone has the tool bar, but you can always look up the traffic rank for one of your own sites and then compare that with your server log traffic, then you have a decent formula that will get you close.

                                      I've always heard it's a better indicator of how many Japanese people are looking at a site, lol.

                                                  I've always questioned this too. I don't understand why thehun would have such a poor ranking on Alexa when his site is clearly the larger than many others that have a higher ranking.

                                                      I think the Alexa installed base is very small. The changes are to fast and radical and suggest a small sampling. I have also seen notes on our site that suggest a few users with a tool bar installed can really alter rankings.
