And I'm THANKFUL for those freedoms....But "proud" has nothing to do with them.

I am proud to be an american because when in a time of need my fellow americans pulled together and helped each other regardless of color, sexual preference, geneder, and political beliefs. There were countless volunteers on 9-11 that rushed down to the wtc to search for survivors, to help with recovery, to do what ever they could.

In fact there were so many volunteers nyc had to turn some away. Firemen from across this country pulled into nyc looking to do whatever it took. Some stayed in nyc for weeks.


Being a proud American isnt just about the last 4 years of a presidency either. It entails much more....

It's very easy for people to say that whenever someone speaks out against their government or country as a whole.

Life isn't that simple, though.

Most people are born into a country, they don't immigrate there. They didn't chose to be a citizen of that country. And if they don't like the country they probably want to leave. Not everyone can though. It takes a huge investment to relocate to a different country... not to mention the immigration process (they'd most likely need a visa, which means they'd have to find a job there beforehand, or they'd need relatives there to sponsor them etc.)

Not everyone who wants to move can.

in addition to the attacks already mentioned, any attack on the US abroad (the Cole, embassies, hostage situations, etc) should be considered as an attack on the US.

I don't mean to discount the efforts of those involved with 9/11 in any way, shape, or form. BUT...Let's face it. ANY AND EVERY other country would have done the same thing.

As a U.S. Citizen, if I were in Italy and they had a similar attack, I would gladly pitch in a helping hand just as I would have if I had been in NYC back then.

Would that make me proud to be Italian or any other nationality? No. It would make me proud of the accomplishments and nothing more.

By your logic, only American citizens have the right to be proud of 9/11. Do you have any idea how many non-Americans were in NYC that day? How many of them helped out? What if they were Saudi? I suppose it would then be fair to say that they should be proud to be Saudi because of what they did on 9/11. No?

Well that's something I disagree with and the rest of the world has a lot of pride in their nationality and we should as well. It doesn't mean we're the greatest, to us we might be, but I believe this is a great country and I'm proud to be an American even though being an American doesn't define who I am. I proud of the place I live although not proud of my government.

My post was in response to the guy who feels safer IN America because there haven't been attacks since 9/11...when we all know that American's are being attacked daily now in Iraq...terrorism has increased world wide...the world is a much more dangerous place because of Bush.

But he feels safer because there hasn't been an attack on our soil in the last 3 years.

But tell me, personally, what has Bush done to you that affects your life and your family? He surely hasn't done anything to mine.

When we made the decision to go to Iraq it was based on intelligence that basically the entire world agreed on. A lot of the ass suckers who want to be diplomatic and talk about it, or had monetary interests in Iraq (Germany, France, Russia) were totally anti-war, but even those countries had intelligence that is now public that says that they could have almost for 100% certain said that Iraq had WMD's.

Now, we're there, there have been no WMD's found, and NOW intelligence says there may not have ever been any.

Hindsight is 20/20 .. but b4 we ever stepped foot into Iraq we did not know that. If I could hit rewind, sit down the day b4 we went into Iraq and discussed strategy with Kerry on what should be done, I HIGHLY doubt that Kerry would have had much more insight into the situation than Bush did.

In my heart I feel that our government did what was in *THE UNITED STATES* best interest, not of the worlds, but of ours. Although now it turns out that maybe it could have been avoidable, at the time most of our country felt that the war was a necessity.

I rambled, I'm sorry.

I am proud of the fact that over the years there are people who can see the bigger picture and will enlist and fight for the freedoms that were earned so many years ago. I am proud of the fact that even though some may think that servicemen are just brainwashed kids, that they are still there and will serve our country and make sure that the freedoms that were established so many years ago with blood and guts stay true. So I can voice my opinion in an election, and also voice my opinions any time I please without a government able to shut me up.

I am proud of the fact that even with the diversity that exists in this country. Most still believe it is the greatest country in the world and has the greatest opportunities to succeed, and opportunities to become more than just a camel farmer.

Sure this country has it's problems and there are things that we may not like. Things that we see today that are thrust right in our faces have always been there. Today we have more media coverage than ever on the events that happen daily. I think there are some changes that need to be made, and there are things that I don't like. Thankfully I can go out and voice those anytime I please. For all those men and women who died years ago and keep dying today so I can have that freedom. And for the men and women in the government who keep fighting to make sure that we keep those freedoms.

For them I am proud to be an American just like they are!

I guess it is safe to 9-11 also shows us that the common man/woman still has a heart and that the evil in the world can still be over come.

But lets face it, the majority of ppl involved with the efforts that took place on and after 9-11 were american. (By this statement I am not discrediting those who were involved with the effort, just pointing out some facts). This cannot be denied.

The events that follow a tragedy such as 9-11 always will and always have united ppl. Whether they are from France or the US.

Should the french not be proud of rebuilding their country after WWII? Even though many other ppl besides the french had a hand in it?

My sister's husband is a pilot and has been in Iraq for nearly 2 years now. 2 of his childhood best friends were killed right in front of him .. His children have been fatherless on their first day of Kindergarten.

Anybody who takes a personal role in something like that should be proud. The fact that they are French is not part of the equation. They should be proud to be a compationate human being.

If Al Qaeda does attack...it will take some time...it was 8 years before they were successful in America again..from '93, to 2001...it may be another 8 years from 2001 before they are succesful again.
