Kerry can still win without Ohio

If Kerry wins all the other states and ties it at 269 to 269, one of the electors that is supposed to vote for Bush might vote for Kerry to break the tie. He's not required to vote for Bush.

    Yes your absolutly right!!!
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60. Let me repeat... A 120 x 60 button and no more that 3 lines of DEFAULT SIZE AND COLOR text.

I don't see that happening, first off, you're talking about NM & NV being the popular vote to Bush, so right there if Kerry doesn't get Ohio, Bush wins.

So really, Kerry needs to get Ohio, in my own opinion. And I don't see that the provisional ballots bringing Kerry up 126,000 vote's, when there is only about 175,000 valid ballots.

You're right about New Mexico, but I don't think that Iowa was clearly Bush's take. I think that Nevada will most likely be Bush's also.

I could only hope that would happen, but the probability is so slim it's depressing...

Unfortunately, in event of a electoral tie, the deciding vote is done by congress. (controled by the republicans).

I'm pretty sure a candidate has to have a majority of all electoral votes that exist in the country rather than electoral votes cast. So (if i'm not mistaken) one candidate would have to have 270 electoral votes to avoid it being decided in the congress. So I think 269 - 268 would still send the election to congress where Bush would win. I'm not 100% sure about that though and it would be a nice thing to know 100%.

So a tie is not good. That's what those commentators on CNN were saying as well.

I have a funny feeling Kerry is going to win Ohio

Mind you, it's an 11 day wait because "it's the law" but CNN was reporting to be trying to at least find out for certain how many provisional ballots are out there because there are so many different numbers being thrown a boot.

Let me be as gentle as possible.

Currently, Bush has 145,000 vote lead in Ohio (it keeps rising)

There are approximately 250,000 provisional votes. Provisional votes have to be verified, they will not all count. Usually about 25% end up being validated. Let's say that this time an amazing 50% are counted.

so, now we have 125,000 extra votes. Now, let's say that 100% of those votes go to Kerry.

He is still short by 20,000 votes. Forget it. Bush won.
