Word of advice .... if you have any smarts at all ... DO NOT think of a surfer only as a potential $30 signup and maybe one or two recurs ... every surfer is also a potential "word of mouth" advertiser for your website !!!

Ask ANYBODY in sales, who is somewhat successful, and they will tell you that word-of-mouth advertising (and personal referrals) are the BEST, cost efficient advertising tools you can have !!!

This is not rocket science. Let's say the ACME company (only because Coyote and Roadrunner was my favorite carton growing up ...) starts to sell a brand new shampoo, and you see their ads on the boob tube maybe 20 times a day ... after 3 weeks, I bet that at least 8 out of 10 of you still have not tried it.

Yet ... if your best friend called you up and raved on about how fabulous this new shampoo they just tried is ... I bet dollars to doghnuts, that 8 out of 10 of you WOULD go out and try it ... just on your friend's recommendation !!! These stats have been proven time and time again ...

I have heard many webmasters talk shit about the surfers, like they are an inferior breed to us SUPERIOR ADULT WEBMASTERS. Well, I got news for you ... You could have all the brains and talents of Lensman, YNOT Bob, Fantasyman, The Hun, Persian Kitty, and even Soul Rebel(hehehe), but without these surfers ... YOU AIN'T GOT SHIT DUDE !! (or "dudette" if it applies)

I agree whole-heartedly with you ... It would be a fucking cold day in Hell before I ever bought a WebTV unit!!! But 15 million surfers is alot of potential Moolah !!
Maybe YOUR site looks like hell on WebTV ... Have you ever taken the time to check it ??
Here is something to mull over ... MOST web sites look like shit on WebTV. This is FACT! Now seeing how WebTV relies HEAVILY on bookmarking for navigating ... if your site looks like hell, it is never going to be bookmarked! Do not get me wrong ... I HATE WebTV WITH A PASSION !!! If I had the fund$, I would buy the entire operation, just so that I could SCRAP IT !!! But the fact that 15 MILLION+ people have purchased one of these cocksucking units, I do not think should be overlooked ... anyways, enuff of that.

I think that the points made, while they do apply to WebTV users ... can also apply to how we as webmasters treat the surfers in general.

I am not saying that we (collectively) treat surfers like shit ... but I am saying that there are enough webmasters, both HERE, and on OTHER BOARDS that think surfers are stupid assholes ... who they can take $30, $60, or even more from, and that is the end of that surfer's usefulness to that said webmaster ... My main point was that THESE webmasters are missing the "big picture".
