Stupid Canadian asking a stupid question about the US elections

I know you guys vote tomorow. How long after the poles close are the results read?

Is it the usual one day vote and that night the winner is known?

    thx,
    Ray

is no one able to answer this?

Let assume there is no court case or miss counts.

                  Problem is "clear winner"

                  thx

For the presidential elections normally results come in all day and after the polls close it takes about 3 hours for most of it to come in. If one side is so far ahead the other couldn't win even if all the remaining votes were for them the other side usually will make a concession speech congratulating the other candidate and thanking all the people who helped in their campaign. Little chance of that happening tomorrow night.

For local elections they often have results available in time for the evening news and almost always in time for the late news, unless there is not a "clear winner".
