oh its going to be a mess and disaster. Problem is the US keeps saying the key is to get the election done on that date and all will be well. You can elect anyone you want, but the violence will not stop, and the new president will not live or have any power.
They like to point to the "successful election" in afghanastan, but they fail to tell people the elected president has rule over the city of Kabul and thats it. He has to travel in large convoys and can't leave his city as he has no power and would be killed. At Tet we killed 45,000 viet cong, another 12,000 civilians
and lost 4300 American soldiers killed with another 1000 taken POW
and somewhere around 10,000 injured over the month long battle.
Politically it will be about the same - Pres. Johnson used that battle
to get an extra 200,000 soldiers drafted and to justify the war to the
American public, however most of what really happened in the press
back then was lies. They were of course exposed as lies some 10 years
later after we had lost more soldiers for nothing.Comment
