How long before the US is no longer 'united'?

I'm just curious what others think. If it will happen at all how long before the USA fragments? It seems that it's becoming less 'united' almost daily, so will it ever reach a point where it simply breaks up into smaller pieces or even has another civil war?

Rather than becoming more multi-cultural in the US, groups seem to be segregating more and drawing together to make larger and larger communities that try hard to isolate themselves from much of that outside. Of course this is also hapening elsewhere but it seems not on the scale that you find in the US.

Add that to many other factors and there's a case I think for saying the US will eventualy break into smaller pieces.

    Just food for thought

It seems unlikely that the US will forever remain as it is today. It wouldn't surprise me if America split into 2-3 seperate countries someday.

Maybe not this time but given the extremes each side goes to and the unwillingness to tolerate the other maybe one day...

Guess which side can identify everyone who isn't on theirs.

In my opinion, there seems to be a growing ideological chasm between liberals and conservatives. The chasm has always existed, but there are issues today that are straining the ability of the two sides to reach any compromise. Stuff like the Patriot Act, same-sex marriage, abortion, and the legalization of marijuana.

There's plenty to be pissed off about these days no matter what ideology you subscribe to.

The same-sex marriage issue is something I could see absolutely infuriating both sides.

Conservative Christians will go insane if more states start to allow gay marriage.

Liberals and civil rights activists will go nuts if The Federal Marriage Amendment is approved.
