Just read the ynot article on protecting your identity.

Mine used to be web design. People wouldn't stop asking about what sites i've designed so I changed it to web hosting which no one understands. I guess average people are under the impression web pages just inexplicably exist, sort of like the oceans and the earth.

I have a legit mainstream business and I can actually host sites, register domains through the TUCOWS reseller channel, anti-spam (MX Logic) but I won't lie to you... I don't have any clients and I really don't care.

I've started saying "I do graphic design" and so far people just accept that and no one has ever followed up with a question to it.

I used to say "I do website design" but that usually opened up a hundred questions about what kind of websites, where do I get clients, what kind of websites, name one of the websites Ive worked on, etc

well when you open up a business account at the bank and they ask you what you do, its probably not a good idea to say you work in porn.

Not a bad idea... people seem to understand graphic design as something simple.

Last christmas party I went to and dropped "web designer" some other guy was there who does web design as a side business. He was a total fucking idiot, thankfully... thought W3C was a programming language.

Try it with an IRS auditor or banking relationship manager and see what it gets you.

I remember last year when Bank Of America dropped silvercash's accounts once they found it they were in porn.
