:stop 2257 - Free Speech Coalition - Update

The thread I started Friday on this won't pull up so I'm starting a new one to keep you guys updated.

For those of you who don't know the Free Speech Coalition is putting together a defense fund to fight the new 2257 regulations in court.
You can read about that here
http://www.freespeechcoalition.com/

We ALL need to get behind them and give them our financial support.

I personally have decided to boycott any sponsor who doesn't make a contribution to the defense fund, and I urge the rest of you to join me.

To make a donation send your check to:
Free Speech Coalition
PO BOX 10480
Canoga Park, CA 91309

Write "2257 defense fund" on your check so they'll know what the money is for.

I spoke with them this morning and they're working on setting up paypal and credit card donations to make it easier for you to contribute.

This affects us all, sponsors, affiliates, hosting companies, and content providers. We all need to step up here and do the right thing.

Also, since the thread I started Friday is apparently gone, I'll repost this.

I'd like to see affiliate programs, content providers, hosting companies etc step up to the plate and run promotions to raise money for the defense fund.

An affiliate program could run a bonus payout day with the bonus money being a contribution to the FSC in the affiliates name.
Alot of your affiliates are barely making ends meet (especially the ones waiting for Ibill checks)
They may not be able to donate cash, but they can send you their traffic to do their part to donate to the cause.

Also all of us need to purchase content, hosting, design work, etc. on a regular basis so I for one would rather purchase these things from someone who will give a % of my purchase to the defense fund.

In the other thread a handful of companies already offered to give a % of their sales to the FSC.....if you were one of them please re-post your promotion here (I can't remember them all)

Its pucker time people.....let's give our attorneys the resources they need to send the AG back to washington with his tail between his legs.

Hey Lenny,

You are right about everyone needing to contribute.

Python is a major supporter of FSC both financially and actively. We email webmasters regularly with FSC updates and support all their events. One our partners, Greg Dumas, has previously served on the board and now serves in a more liason function and regularly communicates with the board. We also host all their websites and help manage all their technical needs. Moreoever, we support what they do and are willing to be partners with whatever battle they are willing wage.

Who else is going to step up to the plate financially?

That's great to hear Elvis.
Python and Dollarmachine are top notch programs....and this is just one more reason to support them with your traffic.

Lightspeedcash has never backed down from a fight, especially one so important to the entire industry. We appreciate the FSC's work, and Python's contributions, and we are happy to give $5000 to the fight against the new 2257.

That's great news Steve. Glad to hear it

I'll be making up a list soon of everyone who's offered their support so webmasters will know where to send their traffic and spend their money.

As for epassporte and paypal they're working on it, I told them this morning they'd get alot more contributions if they set those up and they assured me they'd get on it.
I'll post the info here as soon as I get it.

You can thank senators Diane Feinstein and John McCain for writing that attrocity to free speech, congress for passing it, the president for signing it and the supreme court for ruling it to be constitutional.

I thought 2257's were a loophole for the Campaign Finance Reform law. My bad. Still, I'll give a bump for the cause of free speech, it's the corner stone of freedom.

HAH!!!
No, those are 527's...and they have nothing to do with our industry.

We're talking about the rules regarding record keeping for porn producers of model id's and releases.

You should use that donation money to buy yourself a fucking clue.

No one has even implied that the only law in the world is ours.....but if US webmasters go out of business, or worse, get thrown in jail, it will be a severe blow to the entire industry regardless of what country you live in.

I was going to post this in the original thread, but was unable to find it.

MonkeyGreen.com will be giving one dollar per sale from now until the Vegas show to the FSC. This includes the two new sites which will be launched prior to the show.

In addition, I will have the girls from the above mentioned new sites promoting in Vegas. Their sites will be on the front of the postcards which will be handed out and the link below will be printed on the back.

http://www.freespeechcoalition.com/i...lor_150dpi.gif

I have tried to contact them on Friday about a PSD, but have not heard anything back just yet. As soon as I get that from them, Rob from AcidFlyers.com will be printing them up.

Uhmm, ok. Example please of how 12-15% of the internet
population deals a severe blow to the rest of the world?
(don't even give the VISA argument, cause we both know,
they can and will process outside the U.S.A.)

I've got enough sites that don't use anything related to the U.S.A.
that my mortgage is paid at the end of the month.

2257 to me right now is nothing more than an annoyance as I
deal with people that over react to it. Let's see what your
government is going to even do with before we run around
yelling the sky is falling yet again.

Sending a Check this week for sure. Good post man!

We do want to keep "master" in webmaster. To do so we must be "masters" of our own destiny.

The DOJ is interested in controlling the CONTENT. The DOJ doesn't care if the content is on a DVD, website, photo, or VHS tape. It is all about the content and the 2257 regs are about controlling and eliminating the access of Americans to that content and putting controllers of the content in federal prison for a couple of years if they don't have their paperwork PERFECT.

The proposed 2257 regs affect everybody from the biggest DVD porn mogul to "Joe GeeK" working his hosted porn site after work from his livingroom. The regs affect us all.

To protect ourselves, we should do the following in my opinion:

1. Make doubly-damn sure you have no underage content on anything under your control. If you do, just shoot yourself now and save us all a lot of grief.

2. Make sure minors cannot access your website. If they can, you should paint a really a BIG target on your t-shirt.

3. Deal with reputable content sources that have the 2257 information documented for your websites. Having that documentation in your grubby little fist makes you closer to bulletproof. Having foreign content with documentation in Western Moldovia isn't going to help you. Paint another target on back of t-shirt and make it dayglow.

4. Call, write, email, telegraph or stop by in person the Free Speech Coalition and JOIN!! Do it today, do it now, and do it fast.

"Why should I join?" you ask.

One really big reason........When the DOJ issues the new revised regulations, they can begin enforcing the guidelines IMMEDIATELY.
This means you can be audited the same day if they really want your ass.

When the regs are issued, as soon as possible, the Free Speech Coalition is going to challenge the regs in Federal Court. When they do, the FSC will ask for an injunction from enforcement which they will probably receive. The injunction from enforcement will only protect those people with the foresight to be MEMBERS of FSC.

Hopefully, the DOJ will not go after webmasters who are not members of FSC; but, your protection is not guaranteed unless you are a member of FSC.

4. Call your 1st Amendment attorney and see how much it would cost to file your own lawsuit in Federal Court and compare it with the cost of joining FSC. I'm sure you'll see the FSC is the REAL bargain of the day.

Free Speech Coalition

I hope this has been helpful. Good Luck and Godspeed to all.

I've got enough sites that don't use anything related to the U.S.A.

2257 to me right now is nothing more than an annoyance as I
deal with people that over react to it. Let's see what your
government is going to even do with before we run around
yelling the sky is falling yet again.
You are severely uninformed. I'm not even going to bother responding to you anymore........arguing with idiots is like wrestling with a pig.
You get muddy and the pig likes it.

If you don't think this is a big deal then fine, ignore us.
Don't, however try to make others think it isn't a big deal because its a HUGE deal, your anti-american- small guy- penis envy complex notwithstanding.

Can you post their bank details with a swift code so I can do a wire from Australia? I know it doesn't affect me over here but we all need to stand together.
