It's not a big deal in many parts of Florida. Alligators are everywhere and no one pays them any particular attention. For the most part, gators are very docile as far as humans are concerned.

Alligators have tiny brains so it would be hard to do any damage in that respect, and since the gator is still swimming then I would think no major nerve or spinal damage had been done, barring massive infection, with a good vet it should be just fine.

You're not going to be sitting in a park and some aligator comes up on you unnoticed. There have been less than 20 deaths from gators in Florida in the last 50 years and most of them where people being retarded.
