Anyone use Scottrade?

I have an account at Merrill, but I wanted to move it to a low cost broker. I don't need support. Anyone else at Scottrade, and how do you like it?

The executions are fast. Never had a problem. And it is nice that they have so many locations all over the country.

There is new big office downtown Seattle.

Nice, do you use the online trading account I saw? Looks detailed enough with live quotes. I don't think ill be heavy trading, but it seems detailed enough to do what I want i guess.

Its plenty detailed enough, I use it daily with roughly 100 different executions. Access to many features you would otherwise pay for. Market order prices are second to none, no inactivity fees among 500 other reasons to use them.

You will be very happy, market executions are split second.

If I remeber there market orders along with a few others are ridiculous at 15-20 a pop. Dump them and get with scottrade, they will transfer your cash (if any0 or its a low 500 opening.

I only use limit orders but those seem to fill extremely fast as well. When I first started using them I could not believe the speed.

Yeah, I used to work at Merrill a few years ago, and my family has money there as well. I just want to move some money I sorta forgot about and play with it a little. I havent messed around in the market for awhile, but why not put it to good use I am filling out the transfer paperwork right now.

Something to consider about online brokers:

if there is some kind of financial panic I would not all my stocks on Etrade or Scottrade

There is no way their servers can handle 1000's of freaked out people trying to sell at the same time.

Well, while theres many reasons I would disagree with you, the main one woul;d be I can still call in and do broker assisted trades at 12.50 it looks like.

The online market orders are at 7

true BUT then you would get a constant busy signal since they will not have enough phone lines open -- because most people trade online all the time with no problems
