It gets downright scarey when so many people of your own generation are popping their clogs.
Apart from him having the same name as one of my godfathers, I shall remember John Peel because he and "whispering" Bob Harris (who fortunately is still alive asfar as I know) did more to promote non-Top20 rock than anyone else in the UK. Without them, there are artists, maybe even whole styles of music, to which we would never have been exposed. BTW I watched the OGWT 30th Anniversary DVD the other night. If you haven't caught it, there is some excellent music on it and some great nostalgia. |

I had a few drinks with John at a BBC party 4 years ago. All he wanted to talk about was music. His job was his life. So many acts owe so much to him. Sex Pistols, Mike Oldfield and many more.

He was not only rock n roll broadcaster .. Recently he worked alot for electronic music as well .. Damn I know few bands that had real good sets on his station .. RIP
