I live in the UK and was about to register as a self employed webmaster when I thought I'd check up British laws regarding porn on the internet.
I found this: http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,20539,00.html
This says that running a porn site, even if the content is published and served from the US, is illegal in the UK.

Can anyone give me any feedback on this? Would registering as self employed be asking the government to prosecute me?

You can safely run a porn site from the UK. Mr David Sullivan one of the UK's most high profile newspaper owners runs a huge porn site advertised every day in the newspaper. The guy who got sent to jail was selling beastiality with a UK based merchant account to take the money. They made an example of him and sent to jail but let out 2 months later. I would not recommend you sell beastiality but anything you find in a top shelf magazine can safely be distributed on the internet. UK Merchant accounts suck anyway. They dont have there acts together like CCBill etc.

I was sure it wasn't illegal cos there are a lot of uk webmasters but all I can find on the net is reports about how illegal it is.
