Depends how much data those 3 million users will take. If you're serving movie to them, you'll a lot more servers than if you are serving an HTML.
Anyhow i'd recommend a dual 1Ghz CPU with 1-2GB of ram and a SCSI configuration. ICQ me as I can get you some incredibly good deals on servers and bandwidth ICQ: 91603384 |

Uh.. that much power for a paltry 3 million hits?
Not even close. Of course, it DOES depend somewhat on your content, and traffic patterns, but I'll assume that those are average. We have one of our servers that hosts virtual accounts that does about 20-30 Million/mo without even hitting 1% CPU usage. It's a dual 650 w/ 1GB RAM. Nothing huge. We even use an IDE RAID array on it, which doesn't get beat up very badly (of course, we do have dedicated disks for logging.. which is most of the i/o) It's not always neccessary to throw hardware at things, it's better to plan smartly. -Phil |
