Why the 2-party system?

Can some intelligent person explain why US has to keep going back and forth between 2 parties, while many other countries (republics) don't?

I'm sorry, please name for me some democracies that do not contain multiple political party systems.

I got my "sample ballot" in the mail. There are like 13 parties running for the offices of P and VP. It's about campaign funding. I'd never even heard of the other 11 foolios.

Monopoly posing as a duopoly posing as a democracy.

If it wasn't, then you would have saw televised debates with everyone who got enough support to be on the ballots in more than XX states (ie... Nader, Badnarik, Cobb etc.)

What a fucking scam.

You got me wrong.

What I meant is, in other countries, there are more than 2 major parties involved in elections.
Usually no single party wins the majority vote, and they need to build coalitions to form governments.

Yes, I'm trying to understand why that happens in the US, while in many other countries, at least 4-5 parties would get more than 5% of the vote.

What's different here?

Exactly...

www.approvalvoting.org would be a nice and welcome change here.

Ah I see - yes, more or less what nofx said - these two parties are so well established that it's damned near impossible for another party to move in aside them right now. So our choices are limited and we are forced to vote for lesser of two evils.

It's not about campaign funding.

Perot had plenty of money & they still didn't let his ass in the debates with Bush and Clinton.

It's about controlling the elections and the issues discussed.
