Are there any Active Stock traders out there?

I just love trading stocks. I do about 5-10 trades a week, large cap tech stocks. I usually hold a stock for 30 minutes to 2-3 days. Rarely over that. I usually go almost full margin, buy large ammount of shares example I have 5000 SUNW right now, get a .25-1.00 pop and sell. Will take a $500-1000 loss if the stock goes the wrong way before a loss gets to big.

Right now own 5000 shares SUNW bought at $14.02

Anyone else out there day trade?

I go inside mIRC chat into a room called "Daytraders" my name is Platinum Investor, there are like 1000+ daytraders in there everyday posting all trades they do. Great room.

I posted to the room that I work in Adult industry 2-3 others said ME TOO. Laughed my head off, any of those people here in GFY?

Anyways curious to see hear from people that trade stocks.

Lane I have been trading for almost 4 years now, It is not easy at all, most people I hear lose.

Now that is my disclaimer.

Since I came back from Vegas in late June I turned 15K into 35K what I have now.

I took off 8 months from trading when the markets where droping like a rock from Nov-June so since I started again 20K profit.

But again, this is my passion, I eat, sleep, breath stocks.

Definately money to be made, Great thing about stocks is everyday is a new adventure, and it really doesnt matter if the markets are going up or down, you can make money. I bet on stocks to go up or down, every trade can be in a different direction, no common theme.

I trade some stocks. I have a fairly solid gas stock I have been holding onto. My tech stocks are down about $700 bucks but I am still way ahead overall. Still looking for the fast gain!

I bought 100 units of Ballard Power Systems stock when it was at $42.50 (CAN). When it went up to $90.00 I sold 50, then it went way the fuck up to 183 I think it was, and I sold 25, it peaked at 210, but I held on to my last 25, which I still have.

Hmmm, now it is below what I originally payed for it, around $33 CAN. But who gives a fuck, I already made my money, it's just really too bad I did not buy 500 or 1000 shares!!!

Easy. During the Net Bubble craze, I made 9K in one day trading on RIMM. Also when WEBM went schitzo in one week, I made a nice chunk of change.

Pick a stock known for its volatility and try to buy on Bad News...sell on good news.

There's so much more to it than that. After the whole net IPO craze and the burst bubble, the heyday of do-it-yourself investors is basically over. Many people don't want to get a broker and pay somebody that they don't have to.. But if you don't have an understanding for this stock "game" then why put yourself at risk? Do some trades with a broker, milk him for as much information as you can, then head out to e-trade or whatever you want to use.

Simply "buying on bad news on a volatile stock" won't get you anywhere in most cases if you don't have any research behind it other than knowing its volatile. How do you know that the news won't get worse and the stock will plunge even more after you buy it?

A better option would be to buy short on bad news. You know the price will drop if there's any hint of "bad news" and you make money on however much the price falls.

Back when news first got out about motorola's plan on layoffs, I took the entire line of credit on our house and sold short on motorola with 2 different brokarage frims. The stock dipped 7$ that day and i made a killing using money that I didn't have and selling short on stocks that originally belonged to someone else.

Hey JakeR contact me on ICQ it seems you know what your talking about in Stocks. 46278228

I personally use margin all the time, I do what you do, if there is bad news in a stock I do not go long, I would short that stock. The bad news will usually make a stock flat or down for the near term.

On the other hand stocks that come out with good news, you go long, always go with the momentum.

Dont buy stocks at the peak though

Long = buying stock to go up
Short = Betting on stock to go down

I'll give you all an update on what happened to me today.

Interest rates were cut in the US today by Mr. Alan Greenspan, the tone of his speach after was very negative about the economy not getting better yet. Stock market went from a nice positive day to a fucking crap day stocks went straight down from 2:15 PM when the announcement of 1/4 cut in interest rates was made.

I had a $5000 profit, I watched this profit go to -$1400 by the end of the day when the stock market droped like a rock.

I am so pissed right now I didnt take my profit, I have never seen the markets drop this fast in 1 hour.

This shows you how risky the stock market it, it is not all roses and cream.

By the way I am still up 100% since end of June.

Hi all, new to the board. Been droping in and reading some posts over the last month or so. Saw this topic and just had to reply. Anyone on here who is an active trader and trading through someone like E-trade(E-tards) or TD Waterhouse is going to get there money taken from them and probably already has lost some money or profits because all your trades are getting cleared by a broker before they go through. If you really want to trade with the pro's open an account with a company like tradecast or cybercorp. PlatinumDave, I see your in Toronto. You should sign up to trade through Swiftrade. There a hell of a lot better to do active trading with then any of the other brokers in Canada. If you do 50 trades in a month with them they waive their desk fee and you'll get access to all of Tradecast latest software. I myself am not trading at present because I don't have a big enough pot of cash to scalp with. Oh by the way, my background is financial, all my schooling and such and I'm about to write my professional financial planning exam sometime in the next 2 months. Great board by the way and hopefully I'll be able to contribute some good posts to it in the future.Well thats all I've got to say for now.
