I have both a Rebel and a 20D. I would highly recommend the 20D.

It doesnt shoot video. I use one and love it. It is a very small step below the 20D.

What is your budget?

If you are willing to take the time to learn photography and don't mind paying $1349, go to Ritz and get the 20D. It is on special.

The XT is good, but is far inferior to the 20D.

The Sigma 12-24mm lens is the widest angle full frame lens you can get for a Canon (D)SLR, but its build quality is variable and you could end up with a dud.

I would think twice about buying EF-S lenses (rather than EF) because they will only work on the Digital Rebel and 20D bodies. EF-S lenses are made for the smaller "1.6 times crop" sensors used on those bodies. Think of the future: your lenses will probably last longer than your body, so you're limiting yourself by investing in EF-S lenses. If you ever buy a full frame body (including a film body) then your EF-S lenses will be useless.

Here's an example of the Sigma 12-24mm on a 1.6X body (a 300D/Digital Rebel). I was standing only about 3 metres from the nearest truck:

On a full frame body like the 1Ds or a film body this lens is suuuper wide... everything vertical bends inwards like crazy if you point the camera upwards:

I like the Digital Rebel and Canon lenses. I use the standard lens that came with it or a 28-105mm Canon lens that becomes more like a 45-170mm on the Rebel that I like too.

all digital cameras are pretty much technically obsolete within 12 months.

so for a bang around camera that you can use for web imagery the canon rebel is just about the best bang for the buck.

superior color in this price range and optimized for minimum post processing.

shoot and put images on the web immediately.
