"In the meantime, van Rossman is keeping the set unplugged - to avoid a fine of up to $10,000 per day if his TV cries wolf again."

Think man, think.

If TVs are rigged with devices that send distress signals, WITHOUT the owner's knowledge.... devices that are usually only on airplanes, etc... don't tell me they don't also put other "gadgets" in there as well.

I've heard rumors forever. Something like this makes those rumors more believeable.

The telescreen fucked up, they're not supposed to start working until Bush is "re-elected" and the real police state starts. Good to know there are devices in our TVs that can alert the police to rush to our house.

Not hardly. I used to be an engineer for Motorola (land-mobile communications or 2-way radio systems). What happened with the TV is what's called a spurious signal. Under certain conditions, a TV could easily generate a signal of 121.5 MHz. Most electrical devices emit RF during their normal operation. I'm sure emitting a signal at 121.5 was not intentional.

Watch a site like infowars.com link to that article, and have it disappear in a couple days. Down the memory hole.

I've seen some really strange things happen with RF. We had a portable radio that was used by Skywarn (a storm spotting group) that when keyed near another portable, it would trigger near by tornado sirens.

I've seen a radio that could open a garage door. Radios set off fire alarms all the time.

It's just a spurious signal. Nothing more. You should see a spectrum analyzer when you turn on any electrical appliance. There are spikes all over the place. Honestly I'm shocked things like this don't happen more often.

When I was in High School the US Navy came to visit our school, and they came in a helicopter they landed on the front lawn of the school. They opened it up for tours, and sure enough some idiot took a portable radio out of the helicopter and stashed it in his locker - setting off the emegency channel. Suddenly our high school was had a dozen helicopters flying over it, and the Navy traced the signal down to the locker.
