Google desktop search: No Fucking Way!

That thing is an accident waiting to happen. It stores every email, messenger convo, cache, etc on your pc. Privacy issues abound and I'm sure the spyware guys will be all over this.

For instance, you sign up to a sponsor and get a confirmation email. Your user / pass is sent to you and archived on your pc. A quick search for that password will show everything you've ever typed it in whether a log to a programmer, an error trying to get into a mysql database, other emails, etc. I can see the spyware guys all over this just downloading the archived info from peoples computers.

I read that. And it's different from using the Windows search how? Would it not pull up emails with password info?

google.com is a great site use it every day but the way they collect info isn't very good in my opinion...

You're an idiot. Google desktop scans your shit in real time and stores it in one central location. It keeps up with everything that you have EVER done, not what is on your computer today.

Windows search is only good for what you leave on your pc. This thing runs in the background and stores EVERYTHING you do. If you get an email and delete it it's still accesible from the google app.

I searched google for my username and it pulled up the threads I've posted in today, the sponsor programs that I typed that username into, all emails with that info, even a database error I received that used it as the username there. The password was clearly visible as well. Did a quick search for one of my passwords and there were more results cached than I'd ever want to see.

Look you fucking retard. Of course spyware can do all of the above but it's also a chore to get something like that programmed and distributed. Google is fucking huge and they will have a giant userbase compared to little script kiddies. All it takes is moving a folder of all stored info. If you can't figure out how that would affect ones privacy you are a tool. Here's one example to help your ignorant ass out since you can't seem to think with your head lodged in your ass.

An employee could take a folder of shit from a company computer and have all relevant usernames / passwords, contacts, etc etc etc to royally fuck a business into the ground. Lemme guess, you'll say he could code spyware to do it just as easily?

I personally want my computer keeping less tabs on me, and try keeping my computer squeaky clean. Maybe it's just me, but I don't ever really have a problem finding things on my computer..... they're usually right where I saved 'em.

Yeah the stuff you store on your pc anyway is fine. It's all the things like when you log into a website or tell a programmer your root user / pass and it's stored for the world that bothers me. But hey making a spyware program that logs everything on an entire pc is just as easy as swiping a folder according to numbnuts.

It's about 100,000 times faster than windows search. Also stores AIM convos and searches them too. I tried it out today, pretty neat but i really don't search my computer that much.
