Windows ME users, it's time to purge your system RESTORE of all your infected files
In the wake of the insideous sircam worm ("I send you this file in order to have your advice") windows ME users have one last step to clear your computers of all infected files, because if you run your virus scanners (if you have em) you'll still see infected files in your system/RESTORE/ directory. That directory is a feature that automatically backs up files that are corrupted or arbitrarily deleted, and for the purposes of virus-infected files it can be a pain in the royal ass. By now you've no-doubt found out that there is no way to delete those files...or is there?
For those that are at a loss as to how to get rid of those infected files, here's the steps you need to take.... 1) copy & paste this instruction to a blank email, then print it out. 2) Close all open programs (including this browser window you have open) 3) Right-click on "my computer" on your desktop, and click "properties" 4) Click "File System" 5) Click the "Troubleshooting" tab 6) Check the box "Disable System Restore", then click OK, and then click "close". 7) Click "yes" to restart. This disables the system restore feature and will purge the contents of the RESTORE folder when the system is restarted. 8) Run a full system scan, making sure that your antivirus is set to scan all files and all drives. 9)After cleaning the infected files, repeat steps 1 through 7, but in step 6 uncheck the "disable system restore" box. That will do it, your system will be nice and clean and ready for the next bonehead that feels the need to piss off a few million people with his clever little virus crap scripts. Happy cleaning. ___________ CD ![]() * ERASERCASH! Earn $35 per sale + webmaster referrals 4 LEVELS DEEP * $40/signup, $50/recur, 65% partnerships + free content, free daily galleries! * Make $35 per $1.95 Trial!! +Free content!
