Can you have too much education?

Well, reading GFY of course makes me think people need more education. But not the point of this tread.

Here is a quote from Karl Rove.

"As people do better, they start voting like Republicans - unless they have too much education and vote Democratic, which proves there can be too much of a good thing" - Karl Rove, head of the Bush campaign

I would fall into the middle ground...I don't have am overabundance of money but do work hard, don't have college education, but I do vote Republican for presidential.

I am all for helping the underpriveleged but it gets ridiculous. Ever notice when driving through the projects you see Kerry signs? I think the government should help single moms with low income and not be denied help because they make too much......trying punishes her, and it sucks.....yet some fucking fat ass sweathog sits around and makes no effort and cries disability eats better than we do and gets all kinds of help. That was why I was all for a sales tax increase instead of a state income tax. Anyone who buys anything contributes. It seems republicans help those who try, and based on that and a few other issues, that is why I am voting for Bush though he may not be perfect either......even though I don't see where he lied. The only issue I have with him is his motives for stopping the hunt for Bin Laden and going after Saddam.....But there is a lot we don't know that media doesn;t cover.

Where I live (Sacramento County), one of the wealthiest areas in the downtown area (average house is around 375k) has Pro-Kerry signs all over the place.

You can't say it is just poverty areas.

I have had a tough time decyphering (sp.?) where Kerry stands on the adult issue, so I didn't comment on his stand on that.....I do care about the industry, and don't want to cut our own throats, would you fill me in on where both candidates stand on the adult issue?

Not at all your education makes you able to make better decisions a lot of the time but then again it don't mean shit if you don't keep up with it and continue to educate yourself remember you go through school for the knowledge yet many just do it for the paper...

You get most of your education by yourself, going to the library, reading books, reflecting on the realities of life. Academic education is simply brainwashing, which right now is slightly tilted to the left.

education is a solid base and you learn how to learn. it allows you to enhance future learning.

but yes, higher education isn't anywhere near what it should be

you don't have to learn everything what the academe is teaching...just the basics and learn the rest by yourself...especially when it comes to choosing the right political ideals.

Rove's comment reflects polls saying that the more educated people are, the less likely they're going to vote republican. The basic reason behind this is that educated people tend to have a broader world view and get informed about current events from more than just one or two sources (eg. Fox news doesn't have the echo chamber all to itself). A republican's diet of "fear and hate the 'other'" doesn't work so well on someone who's innoculated against it by education.

That's nonsense. Any decent academic education focuses on reading essential literature for your specific field, and on writing/defending your own theories and ideas. No possibility of brainwashing in there.
