New York Times : Kerry for President

The New York Times "enthusiastically endorse" John Kerry for President

"Senator John Kerry goes toward the election with a base that is built more on opposition to George W. Bush than loyalty to his own candidacy. But over the last year we have come to know Mr. Kerry as more than just an alternative to the status quo. We like what we've seen. He has qualities that could be the basis for a great chief executive, not just a modest improvement on the incumbent.

We have been impressed with Mr. Kerry's wide knowledge and clear thinking - something that became more apparent once he was reined in by that two-minute debate light. He is blessedly willing to re-evaluate decisions when conditions change. And while Mr. Kerry's service in Vietnam was first over-promoted and then over-pilloried, his entire life has been devoted to public service, from the war to a series of elected offices. He strikes us, above all, as a man with a strong moral core."

"We believe that with John Kerry as president, the nation will do better."

there's already almost 100 newspapers in the states who openly endorsed a candidate over the last few weeks

it happens in every election.

wake up.

i know it happens, i never said it didnt. its hard to fight criticism of being biased and misleading its readers when they publicly support a candidate.

I live in kerrys state. It's not pretty.. I have to get a permit to put a tent in the yard for my kid to play in. They're trying to make a law where you have to buckle dogs in cars or be fined.. it's all about milking money out of people in any fucking way imaginable. This state is so goddamn fucked up, you can live better on welfare then if you have a job here.

I'm all for getting rid of bush, but not at the price of accepting someone from mass or cali.

But fuckit.. I have family in canada I can hang with for the next 4 years.. I suggest you people make your backup plans..

That page contains letters to the editor.... as in opinions of just average people who write in to the paper. It is not the doctrine or the endorsement of the NYTimes itself.

Btw, I subscribe to the NYTimes online, and am in Canada.

legal plunder . . . . the government doing something that you or I would go to jail for if we did it.

its a hole they've dug themselves into. i wish people wrote and passed bills to help the people but instead all they care about are the ones voting to give them power. basicly "vote for me and ill make your checks bigger". at the same time, the right is all about outsourcing to help big business, which fucks people out of jobs and causes them to go on public assistance. what a fucked up country this has become.

Lets face the reality of it all. I don't believe anyone can take their opinion totally out of anything they report if they have strong thoughts on it one way or the other. They can mask it, but usually you can see where they are comming from because they defend one side more than the other. Alot of them try to take their views out of the equation by using numbers, hoping that they appear balanced. But as soon as those numbers are off the table, their discussions turn into nothing more than rhetoric; trying to persuade you to their side, to their way of thinking.

I have found in this day and age the news has gotten extremely better at pushing their views on others. So I prefer them to be this way open and to the point, instead of trying to appear that they are fair and balanced.

It's a written opinion, in the "Opinions" section of the newspaper, hell it even has the word "opinion" right in the url. I don't see the author's name mentioned anywhere, and although I skimmed much of of the article I saw nowhere where it identified that opinion as being the official opinion of the newspaper itself.

its one thing to defend one side more then the other and another issue all togehter only presenting one side as the whole story. i understand its the reality of news today, but its still sad. this is why i usually dont buy quotes from news reports, because as you said, its usually someones opinion rather than fact.

Because your replied to a previous message where someone was bitching about getting a permit and keeping their pooch tied up in the car. I thought it funny that THOSE 2 examples would bring THIS post from you:

"sounds typical of a democrat ran state. tax in everyway possible to support their entitlement programs for the people they tell arent accepted in society so they should just live off the system."

my reply was an example of WHY they tax so much. they need that extra cash to fund their programs to help the so called needy. try reading it again. "tax in everyway possible to support their entitlement programs"

Well why didn't you say so?

Bitch. You couldn't argue your way around Bush for fuck sakes. Puke, choke and die pole smoker, and if you ever cock off at me like that again it'll be 'head meet ass' time for you. Btw, your eyes look like a clit-to-clit shot.

There, how was that?

Actually, I have an online account for the NYTimes, and they seem to position it under the Editor's opinion, not that of an outside party.

of course its an opinion piece but its still an official endorsement... its usually how a newspaper endorses a candidate, via the editorial.

Like I said, I didn't see an author's name anywhere, no one seemed to sign off on it at all other than the fact that it reads like an opinion and is in the opinions section.

I have no problem with Kerry per se, or the NYTimes for that matter. I have no ulterior motive for being on this thread other than the article looks to me like an opinion piece rather than an official declaration from the paper itself. That's all. I could be wrong, and if I am, big deal.

At least I got momo to relax.
