That's not true everywhere. It's not just a myth. It does exist. It's what happens when you get a group of men together in uniform that take a vow to protect each others back. You'll find the same conduct within the army.

It takes a strong man to break lose from that bind when there is an injustice.

There was a case in Canada about two months ago where a cop punched an immigrant for no reason in the face. Customs was about to deport the immigrant....until video tape surfaced showing exactly what happened. There were two cops on the scene, one punching the immigrant, the other watching. If the video had not existed the immigrant would have been deported. That's the code of silence in it's cruel, brutal action.

Had the other officer been honest he would have come forward with what really happened. He didn't. This happens more often than we think, unfortunately. There just isn't a camera around all the time.

In fact the officer was trying to charge the immigrant for assault. The guy didn't even touch the officer. The officer punched him for no reason, completely unprovoked.

In Illinois maybe 3 years ago a cop gunned down a retarded person who forgot to pay for gas. Shot the back of his car window out and continued shooting until he hit the guy in the head. Totally abusive use of power.

I have known a few pretty decent cops. Not too many though. Some of them need to be evaluated better than the current system does. It's too bad people with power issues are the ones inclined to be in law enforcement and politics.
