One of my professors is a Certified Financial Planner, from what its a pretty decent gig that pays well. He has clients all over the west coast and most people stay with him for a very long time.

I think the advantage of going through their program is they pay for your training and certification plus probably will help you with getting leads. If you can generate your own leads, man work for yourself. |

Yea that is it, there training is really good and they do provide you with in house leads, i just hate working for pennies till i pass all the certification tests, which could take months. The perks and potential income level is what is drawing me to it at the moment. My target area would be Boca Raton which is a plus, just still unsure at the moment if i want to make such a bold career move that might or might not pay off in the long run.

If I may interject.
If Boca Raton is a rich area you may find yourself in a little deep. Usually these people will know their stuff and will see through your inexperience within 10 minutes. You may also find that they will stick with tried and trusted advisors. Dont take this the wrong way, its just that getting thrown into something like that isnt always the bed of roses that it seems. |

"Financial Advisors" are the last thing anyone needs when they manage their money. (Tho some are totally hopeless at this, anyone is of use to them).
Financial advisors are salesmen. I would not even spend one second speaking with one - they have nothing to offer. They are in the same category as photocopier and mailing equipment salesmen - something to avoid. Well.. I tried to be constructive ![]() |

I trained to be a financial advisor for 1.5 years. I actually left the online adult biz for it becuase it sounded like a great opportunity to take over my Uncle's multimillion dollar business. I got my Series 6, Series 7, life and health licenses, and Series 63. After the first year I started realizing that people don't like youth when it comes to their money. I was 23 when i started and nobody wants to have thier money managed by a 23 year old. Here is my advice to you: If you don't mind getting looked down on/rejected for your age, making little if any money the first few years, kissing ass to people, and starting work in the early morning then you will do OK.

I worked for Amex financial advisors right out of shool. It totally fucking sucked. yes they paid for my test, but that was about it. They do cattle calls, they offer everyone a job, because only about 1 out of 20 people last through one year. They made me work 60 hours + per week. Also their leads are shit. They made me do between 60 and 100 cold calls per day. And when you finally get somebody to come in and meet you, you have to sell them some bullshit financial plan that they don't need, before you can sale them investment products. Also people want someone with a lot of experience. Good luck convincing somebody to hand over there life savings.
