High powered riffle is worthless at close range..... I would hope they gave him a compact weapon with high rate of fire with decent accuracy and stopping power as well as teflon, if not then he should look into spending some of his money on his own equipment.

Bomb RESISTANT no such thing as proof.

NiTe-HaWk 10-14-2004 01:09 PM

I would go if I was well trained for it. Right now no way.

Yes my bad, Bomb Resistant car. But yeah he also has hand guns as well as his big bad ass rifle.

He's only 22 years old, he's done specialist training with the SAS for the last 3 months in preperation. His mother is worried sick about him but because he got himself in some debt here, he's left the normal British Army to be one of these bodyguards.

First off, is the gov of UK paying to protect oil companies?

Secondly, SAS, wow, he must know some shit.

Thirdly, no I don't think I would.

Lastly, to all you idiots who want to, do you think you're qualified? :winkwink:

I would too ...

We must install democracy in that country.

It will be infectious to all of the regions around it.

There is no turning back - the voice of peace from the Iraqi population must be heard.

1. No the big Oil Companies are paying these guys themselves to protect their Important staff.

2. Yep he has very specialist training, also paid for by the Oil Companies.

3. Me either.

Donny 10-14-2004 03:49 PM

Why in the world would I take a cut in pay to go to Iraq?

stocktrader23 10-14-2004 03:51 PM

With disregard to the fact I'd say no anyhow...

My friend cuts a few oilfields for a small time oil company here. $6000 for 1 days work.

$6000 cutting grass 1 day vs $800 in Iraq, Haliburton are cheapasses!

SmokeyTheBear 10-14-2004 03:54 PM

Firstly it would take a hell of alot more money for any sane person to even think about.

Secondly the going rate is like 80k.

Thirdly heres the same scenario.

Would you play roulette at 1:25000 for any number on the board but if the ball lands on "00" you get your head chopped off.

Thats about the rough odds..

For $800 a day 7 days a week, I might just do it.

gdog 10-14-2004 04:01 PM

Could I telecommute?

Pornopat 10-14-2004 04:02 PM

I would not.
I understand his choice though. He has developed skills and actually with protection (him) danger will lower...

sexeducation 10-14-2004 04:03 PM

I find it amazing the world's toughest army is over there yet it seems that the general population would not do it.

That speaks to courage of the United States Army.

Big Time ...

Thank you on behalf of all Canadians.

Thank you for your courage.

3 guns don't matter, your dead once you run out of ammo :BangBang:

czarina 10-14-2004 05:40 PM

Do you think that those poor beheaded people didn't have protection?
And they became headless anyway.

It is not worth it!
How about if there is no re-encarnation and this is the only life we get?

Sc*ew that!

Poor & Alive is better than Semi-Rich & Dead!

erehwon 10-14-2004 06:25 PM

Its a little less than I'd take, the current starting pay for working in the relatively safe (until today's bombing) Green Zone for U.S. personnel is around $305K after all the bonuses have been figured out.

I know you many of you are thinking, I'll go to Iraq and kick some ass, the private security contractors are neutered with their ROE, they can only carry .308 or smaller. No .50 Browning machine guns, no LAW rifles, they look the other way for hand grenades, but you're not supposed to have them.

The British have a different way of protection details, they keep things very low key, their hard cars (armored) are usually Land Rovers and will beat them up by smacking them into other cars.

The Americans drive shiny new Suburbans or Land Cruisers, always clean, they stand out like sore thumbs, the contractors call them bullet magnets. The Americans point their guns at everything, the Brits try to blend in.

You all might enjoy this from a contractor in Iraq,

DWB 10-14-2004 06:38 PM

Tell him to look around because he can get more money than that if he is skilled. I know a guy making 10G a week (ex-SEAL) there right now.

Drake 10-14-2004 06:39 PM

I would for 100k

Drake 10-14-2004 06:41 PM

And yeah, I'd be strapped at all times, and I wouldn't trust anybody, especially Iraqi's. I'm not getting into any cars even if an Iraqi police officer tells me too. If he insists, I'm shooting him and anybody around him. I'm not getting my head cut off.

buddyjuf 10-14-2004 06:50 PM

It's all about economics. Even truck drivers and service employees are getting paid a massive WAR premium because of the security situation in Iraq.

In fact, this premium is so attractive that HUNDREDS of Filipinos routinely disobey the Philippine government's warning against working in Iraq. Many even PROTEST this ban.

It's all about economics.

Actually, there was only one party of all the others who were beheaded that had security guards, and they were Iraqi's

Having just Iraqi's guarding you is akin to letting the coyote guard the chicken coop.

No principal with a tier one, (Special Operations, Intelligence community, SWAT backround) protective detail has been kidnapped in Iraq.

The terrorists are going after the soft targets, only the really dumb fuckers that want to see Allah and get their 72 virgins would shoot it out with a detail like this...

I'll stick with taking videos of hot chicks in their panties and selling them on the Internet. Safer and pays more.
