I'm with HSBC in London and New York.....

I had my personal account with them for years, and when I got in to this biz I had a chat with my then bank manager, as I wanted to find out costs for US$ checks. He told me his brothers best friend was in the adult biz and had made a fortune and we joked about it all..... I may have been lucky...

If ypur concern is also the charges for banking US checks, get who ever you go with to open a US$ acct. at the same time. This costs £100 a year to run with HSBC but... Then there are no charges for banking/exchange when I transfer to my current acct. I just get the exchange rate at the time. Considering you can pay from £5 per check to pay in to a regular current acct, the £100 is nothing.

I'd be careful of HSBC, they have instigated a global policy of not doing business with adult-related companies - web sites, dvd publishers, etc. They are not taking new clients and are insisting existing clients move to other banks.

I suggest you start looking for a new bank , Joe, since it is only a matter of time before you are asked to move.

We're with LloydsTSB. We explained our business and they were not concerned beyond the usual "is it legal?". USD cheque negotiation is at pretty good rates (for a business account). Around £8 per batch under $10k roughly, I think.

Happy with Barclays - I usually take in a batch of 12-15 checks in twice monthly - get charged about £9

The only problem is the currency negotiation forms are a pain to fill in

No bank would know what business you are in unless you tell them.

Get an account setup with Lloyds TSB, they're the best by far.
When I first started in adult back in 96 my bank manager came to see me and spent the afternoon surfing my sites
They charge £8 per batch of cheques or free if you have over £2000 in your account (Gold Account)
The phone and online banking is excellent and the offshore banking is even better as you get Sterling, Euro and Dollar accounts

Richard of the Realm

I wanted to talk to you... ASAP...

My burfday tomorrow (13th) and I'm having a party which is being filmed for UK tv channel 4... Do you wanna come. It's part of the documentary being made about my little Sahara

email me your phone number to [email protected] if you can...

As for HSBC... It's all run through my personal acct. so all I do is get the odd wire and pay in checks... No other involvement with the adult biz.. This money could come from anyone, anywhere but thanks

lloyds stopped me depositing US cheques directly into my business account and forced me to open a dollar account. this costs me about £60/year + usual fees. the only benefit i get from this is being able to transfer across to my sterling business account when exchange rates are good.

I always get charged £7 for each cheque, and they said that it didn't matter if i took in 5 cheques at a time, i would still get charged £7 for every one...

NatWest charge £10.50 for cashing a bunch of checks, rather than each one, so if you save up enough and do 'em all in one go it is quite good.
