And there are many new surfers worldwide, but not necessarly in the US...

This may sound like a silly idea, but take a look at the government sites for the census. If they dont have it on the site, head to the library.
The info will most likely be about 2 years behind, but you can calculate the growth rate. I think that they even tell you how.
