Recommend me movies, I need something to watch

Watching a lot of movies over here while doing work. Recommend something worth watching. Haven't seen something impressive lately so I've decided to turn to older movies I haven't seen.

Shawshank was #1 on that lsit for years. I'm disapointed. I'll have to vote 0 for godfather a few hundred times, lol.

MUST HAVE SHORT LIST. Do not rent these, buy them.

Any Tarintino movie - Inlcuding the bad ones like Dust til Dawn. The actors are often common amongst his films. As an added bonus, Desperado includes a brief boobie shot from Salmya Hayek. She's hot as hell in the movie, it was made quite some time ago now.

Romper Stompers - Russel Crow's first movie. Dark subject matter but well done. Graphic violence.

Gladiator - No other movie has ever captured the grandeur that was Rome. Rome is always portrayed as a mighty nation that fell. You'd be surprised how few people actually understand just HOW glorious Rome was. After seeing this movie a few dozen times, I started reading historical books about Rome. I was amazed. To think, not a single mention of this empire in Canadian Social Studies ... But many many years of Indian culture. With all do respect, the advances of Rome pertain to my daily life far more often and with far more force than any defeated Indian tribe.

Repo Man - Cult classic with an assortment of fantastic characters. One of Tarantinos favorite movies. He's said before the briefcase that is so important in pulp fiction, but never explained, is a tribute to the glowing trunk of Frank Parnell's car in repo man. Must see classic.

Drugstore Cowboy - Insite in to the life of drug addicts that rob drug stores. Award winning but a bit dated now. Fabulous movie but may hit anyone with or recovering from a dug problem pretty hard.

Requiem For A Dream - Masterful work. Original subject matter and stunning visuals. If you've ever had an addicition, this movie WILL disturb you. First time I saw it, I was left shivering and speachless. Crude and disturbing in parts, but not for shock value only for story and character progession.

Original Godfather (Part 1) - Do I even NEED to say anything about this? I shouldn't think so.

Scarface - Pacino at his finest. Long, brutally violent and very explosive. You've probably seen this before, but watch it again. Watch carefully how Tony progresses from a dime store thug to a druglord. The finaly downward spiral is devestatingly complete. The movie is dated badly by quality but the subject matter is timeless and well put together.

Aliens - Part two in the series and arguably the best. Fabulous character interactions and personality clashes. As a side note, Hudson, the panicy space marine who freaks out and has lines such as "Just great .. now what are we ge gonna do? We're in some real pretty shit now". That's the same actor, and I don't know his name, that played Chet on weird science. You'll remember him blubbering in that movie too. If you watch a lot of movies, you'll notice he's had a big career full of little parts. Every roll I've ever seen him in includes a panic attack and loss of knitting. Whenever there's trouble, Chet's losing it for sure.

Some of these you've probably viewed at least once. I urge you, see them all again. If you're bored watching Gladiator simply because you've already seen it .. You're not really paying attention. Try watching a few minutes of the opening battle, but concentrate more on the background than the focus of each scene. Absolutely amazing. On 5.1 or 7.1 Digital Surround it's one of the best battle scenes ever made.

How's that for a rambling post? ;)

Series 7: The Contenders

6 contenders are pitted against each other in a no holds barred, kill or be killed contest. The reigning champ is Dawn, a hard-nosed, mother-to-be. We go back and forth between Dawn and the other 5 contenders to see if someone can dethrone Dawn and become the new Champion. What is the prize? How are the contestants picked? These questions are not as important as asking yourself how shameless has our society become?

Batoru rowaiaru (Battle Royale)

Ninth grade students are taken to a small isolated island with a map, food and various arms. They have to fight each other three days long until the last one remains and are forced to wear a special collar which will explode when they break a rule.

it all rather depends on what type of movies you like. If you will give subtitles a go City Of God is a requirement these days
