The touchpad on my laptop doesn't work at all.

You'll probably need to install the original drivers from the manufacturer again ... windows doesn't appear to support that shit very good.

I'm watching this thread tho, might learn something ;)

edit: ooops, thought I read that you had done a re-install and it didn't work anymore. getting way too tired lol

Well, it sounds like one of the items you disabled in startup was related to the touchpad.. You could one by one re-enable an item, reboot.. try it.. repeat..
Pain in the ass, but that should work..

Try going to your system hardware specs, find the touchpad or input device section, keep expanding trees until you find it, then look at it's driver files and see if you recognize a file name you disabled might save time.

It is "Magic Keyboard" or something like that. I also had such a problem. This software was on the CD with laptop drivers.

The scroll on my touch pad stopped working a long time ago, and this laptop is like 6 months old.

I think thet just do that.
My wifes laptop is 7 months old, and hers works just fine.

Advise brand? If it's a Dell, it came with a restore CD and you should be home free.

Otherwise:

Go to the Dell web site with your service tag number in hand.

Download the touchpad drivers/software

unistall the touchpad

power cycle and install the complete driver set

--

Before doing all that, check the error logs for clues and to see if other things have problems

--

when done do a defrag

Another smart thing to do is auto update windows from Microsoft. They do a lot of checking as the upgrades are selected.

Reinstalling the last service pak solves many problems too.

I don't think those two items will help this problem, but they often resolve issues. Makes you look smart. Esp if you're working on a babes PC.

Fixing PCs has earned me more than a few bucks
