do you have an address for them? You could maybe do a whois on thier domains or something to get it. I once had this happen for about $700. I contacted them, no response. I sent a registered letter so I know they got it and no response so I filed a claim in small claims court. that got thier attention and I got my money.

Well The only info I have was that they
were also affiliated with a company called
JR Internet.. I have the original check
with an address in San Francisco, so I
guess I will just have to find a collection
agency..

It is usually the policy of police departments not to get involved - in business accounts, checks from other states, or checks where no driver's license number was taken. Which I assume applies in all three cases here.

Near the middle - look for onlinewakeup.com

Ah, come on. We've all written a check that bounced at one time or another. I think a little *mens rea* (criminal intent) has to be put into the mix as well, don't you think?

actually unseen I don't think it does. one of my best friends is a cop and it seems like about 20% of his cases are bad checks from local stores. Many of them get the check back then try to contact the person. If the person makes good on the check, or makes arrangments for the check to get paid it's usually all good ( like you said everyone makes a mistake every now and then) but many of the people don't try to pay for the check or they can't get ahold of the person so the call to police and turn it over to them. I guess it's a felony offense if you are found guilty
