My theory on talk radio.
Conservative radio, ala Rush, was the first to hit it really big for a political format. After Rush came tons of clones, who also tend to do pretty well.
One reason why they have large audiences is that even Liberals and those who disagree with the Conservative hosts will still listen to and call into the shows (if they can get past the screeners, but that's a whole other issue).
Conservative listeners, on the other hand, don't have the ability to sit through a Liberal leaning program without smashing their radios in rage.
Thus there will tend to be a larger audience for Conservative radio. The stations themselves need not have a political leaning, as they are following what the market dictates.
