The US laws towards marijuana are quite suprising to me.
I read an interesting book on the topic recently. It was called
Reefer Madness : Sex, Drugs, and Cheap Labor in the American Black Market by Eric Schlosser

It talks heavily about the marijuana laws in the US
and also about porn. Very good read.

Many folks are under the mistaken impression that cannabis (marijuana) users mostly get off with only a ticket. Truth is a substantial number of people do jail time for mere possession.

The U.S. govt says cannabis has no legitimate medical use and yet they themselves contract the growing and supply of cannabis to several people in the U.S. Yep, at the University of Mississippi ... do some googling on that ... talk about contradictions!

Thats fucked up.
I still can't see why Marijuana is illegal, yet alcohol is considered so socially acceptable. Alcohol is more of a drug, causes more death, bad choices, and wreaks more physical havoc on the body than marijuana.

The only reason marijuana is illegal is that the underground network to distribute it is so extensive that legalization and taxation would never be profitable for the us government. Why do you think the war on drugs is so big and well funded. once they take down the dealer networks then they can legalize and control the distribution and taxation without fear of being undersold by the already in place network.
