What does "TV" stand for.

This ".tv" domain name extension I see every now and then stands for what? It can't be "television," or it would be for TV stations and there would be a .rad extension for radio stations, right?

On the other hand, I can't believe it was intended for transvestites. Of all the new domain name extensions, why that one?

I know that TV stands for a country -Tuvalu. Some engineering entrprenuers went to the Government of Tuvalu and offered them millions yearly for the rights to run the .TV domains. Take a look at www.tv to see what I am talking about! That is probably why games.tv costs $100k per year! What a joke!

As you perhaps know all domain extension, expect the new info, sex, and what ever else is coming, belong to countrys. And .tv is from the small island country Tuvalu. Some countrys gets rich when they sell weapons, export food or oil - others with domains ;o)

I met the guy in vegas that's running the sex.tv site. And knowing what dottv charges for high profile words, he's smoking something to pay their price.

Yeah - I think sex.tv was about $500k/year! Now that is a joke! It's not like you would get that many type-ins - in fact, I rekon your would get hardly any at all!

If i remember right sex.tv was way higher ... at ~1 million a year and if you bid for it you can start at 500.000 or something .. but not realy sure. But as you said already - way to much for a small root server entry. They already make enough money with their domains even if they would offer them all for $35 or something.

Tuvalu sold the rights to ".tv" for $50 Million over the next 12 years. Which for a country of 11,000 people and a GDP of less then $9 Million, its one helluva a deal for them.
