Many people in third world countries actually do a lot to improve things, not just for themselves but also for the rest of their countries. That is something that should not be ignored.

Political instability, corruption, extreme poverty, extremely low life expectancy, lack of an infrastructure, hunger, disease, and tons of other things like those have a huge effect on how people develop. If you had grown up seeing most of your friends dying from diseases, starvation and violence, had gotten no education whatsoever, had seen no positive role models in your vicinity whatsoever... if that were the case, you'd be pretty "fucked in the head" too.

You have to understand that poverty isn't just the absence of luxury goods, it's a complete way of life. And yes, being born into a "bad place" like that is, in most cases, a determining factor in life.

You have to remember also a lot of the fertility problem in 3rd world countries points right to the Church. They don't believe in birth control. Obviously its not in their interest to reduce the number of future followers putting money in their cofferes.
