Products can be obtained from just about anywhere. Some people frequent second hand or sally anne/salvation army stores...or garage sales. There are also police auctions, customs/gov't auctions and postal auctions. Check out the paper for wearhouse auctions too.

Some people even buy stuff to sell on eBay from eBay. For example you could purchase things sold in bulk and then sell them individually.

Retro sells well....old music magazines (even some that are just a few months old...so if you buy them...keep them in good shape and sell them several months down the road for more than you paid for it.)

Like anything profitable, the true secrets to success will have to be learned, not handed to you on a silver platter.

Parts for older cars sell very well on Ebay. One local mechanic shut down his garage because he's making more money selling carburators for old cars than he was fixing them.

Unless you can find a product that you make at least double your investment back it's such a hassel it's not worth it.

You pay for the product..
Pay for ebay to list it.. hope it sells the first time so you don't have to pay again.
Pay paypal their fees.. Yes, you HAVE to accept paypal, it's an ebay standard. No one wants to mail payment anymore.

Then you have to pay for packing supplies. Don't even think of skimping here, because if it arrives broken, customers consider it YOUR FAULT! So even if they didn't pay for insurance, expect them to want a replacement and if you don't deliver it's negative feedback for you.

Don't forget after you invest your time in finding the product, taking pics, writing up a descript, dealing with all the mindless dumbasses that shop there asking idiotic questions 15 times a day, actually get paid, wrap it up securely in a box.. you still have to truck it to the post office and send it. That's a daily thing btw. If someone buys something and they don't get it tomorrow, expect to get lots of hate mail about how it's their sisters/cousins/best friends birthday in 6 hours and they NEED this thing to give as a gift.

Oh, and ALWAYS pay the extra .55 for package tracking. You'll thank me when you start getting people charging back in paypal.

I used to make my living on ebay.. let me tell you, it was such a hassle dealing with all the stupid ass people on there, I quit.

I sell stuff i no longer need or use around my house. Beats the hell out of sitting outside at a yard sale watching creepy people go through your stuff.

I only use Ebay to find out-of-print music/video or to buy electonics not available locally.

just sell stuff you already own, get a feel for how ebay works, and from there you'll find your niche.

check your local storage rental places. by law (in michigan anyway) when people dont pay their bill they have to auction off the contents. they are good for buying and selling on ebay. its time consuming though. every time i've bought it though i quadrupiled my money. last time i got a big screen tv for myself too.
