Let's hope I can find my way to the 405 this morning, I sure seem to be real blonde.

why do you only defend yourself with sarcasm?

I tell people that too. Isn't it easier to have the sender respond than logging in and authorizing it? I would say the exact same thing to you. But I still log in once a day to see what's in "unverified" or log in any time I go to a site and place an order that will send me an auto response.

Nah, never says retard.

Oh and about your other reply to my post:
1. Kimmykim says what the disadvantages are of people using (or people selling) anti spam products and has a very good point.
2. you make a post on how satisfied you are with the software

Point 2 is SO irrelevant. It's great that you are happy and all (why would you post that??), but the "bugs" are really important for our industry.

Sure, they know how, but do they? Not often, I would be willing to bet. After all, the only thing in there is spam, and if they wanted to see it, they would not have blocked it in the first place.

she adresses the points that automated e-mails never go thru, I reply to tell her automated e-mails do go thru without response from the sender if the receiver authorizes it it does go thru.

if you use a product like SpamArrest you're bound to know these things plus upon login you get forwarded to the unverified folder instantly.

That was my point and it is totally on target towards what KK said.

I would be willing to bet that the majority of people who sign up for Spam Arrest know how to handle themselves in such situations. People are smarter than we give them credit for...

if you don't like the system don't use it but don't hate on it. After all the cause of all this is the huge amount of SPAM sent everyday and that is not the fault of any of these e-mail companies nor their users.

You really should educated yourself before lodging your foot in your mouth.

Very good point. Spamarrest isn't the problem, it's actually a good solution in most cases. But users need to know how to use it correctly of course. But that is no different than with any other product.

As opposed to in your ass? ;P

If you think the average surfer knows enough to look for an email from the processor, you're living in dreamland. The average surfer doesn't even realize what a processor is.

<IMX> 10-04-2004 05:21 PM

This thread is bullshit both ways.

Processors/sponsors etc...can't build an automated script to handle spam arrest confirms?

They have tgp auto confirmers and I'm sure spammers have shit to handle spam arrest already.

please. problem identified, described, then solved.

Mike Okitch 10-04-2004 05:31 PM

I can see Kimmykim's point.

And she has not been rude.

She has made use of sarcasm and has been straight to the point but has not been rude. She is one of the very few in this business who says it like it is and doesn't mess around. She has always answered to my contacts promply and with professionalism. Not everyone can claim the same.

Surfers are not generally computer savvy people and a large percentage of them will not realize or understand that actually legitimate email might end up in their spam folder.

Part of a webmaster's job is to make it easy for their surfers. Promoting a program where your very confirmation emails gets placed in a folder other than where the surfer expects it does just the opposite.

I think Spam Arrest has image verification. Is there a way to automate the verification with images? If there is, then why aren't spammers using it to break through the verification stage? And if the spammers are using it, doesn't that render Spam Arrest and similar programs useless?

VirtuMike 10-04-2004 06:09 PM

KimmyKim is usually right to some degree. This time she is right on the money. If your customers get a challenge response system, and nothing is there to respond, the mail gets moved to a folder that has a PILE of legitimate junk mail. They're not expecting this email, so it just sits there until it gets deleted.

Encouraging your surfers to have software that closes the lines of communications between your sponsors and the customers is a BAD idea. Common sense.

If this affects 1% of your surfers, that may amount to $30 every month, or it may be tens of thousands a month, depending on who you are.

<IMX> 10-04-2004 06:22 PM

I'm sure some are. I'd have to take an in depth look at the image verification system. Some can be cracked, some can't.

In the meantime the other method is to contact:
http://spamarrest.com/contact/
them directly and ask about a whitelist program to help nip the problem in the bud.

It is pretty clear, like console killers, spam aresst style of challenge response spam verification is not going away.

adapt or die.

KK couldn't understand why people use SpamArrest because it would supposedly not get password/account info to the actual inbox.

I shared my POV as a SpamArrest user (or for that matter any challenge-response system)...
Somehow she has this urge to call people retards when they do not share her opinion.

I've seen it happen to a lot of people (a lot of ePassporte users even) allthough these people either are potential clients or already bringing in money for them.

What would you do if you buy bread at K-Mart and the cassier tells you you're a retard?

Unbelievable... oh well that's my rant for today:glugglug

i've had my ups and downs with kimmy, known her for several years now and the reality is, if she reamed you out - dollars to donuts you probally deserved it.

that doesn't sound like kimmy........

rowan 10-04-2004 06:50 PM

So let me get this straight, you need to regularly review your unverified folder to ensure you don't miss anything legitimate. Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose? You're still sifting through piles of spam, it's just in a different folder...
