MIT blackjack team

ok, watching discovery and something doesn't add up.

they BRAGGED about 60 people making $4,000,000 over 2 years playing blackjack counting cards.

ok, that's 2 million a year - cool - BUT 60 PEOPLE!!!!

that's $33,000 a year PER PERSON. WHY BOTHER?

Maybe it's like porn. They accept mediocre pay to be able to say "I coun't cards for a living".

The main players were definitely making way more than that. I will have to dig out the book.

The main players made way more than that after the initial MIT team were forced to split up. What the show didnt show was the amount of paranoia inside the group - at the end when they were all well know and their faces and identities were included in the Griffin book, they refused to recruit new players, an obvious solution to their problem.

Also the amoount the inital group made was skewed thanks to a tremendous loosing streak near the end - they had no time to recover due to the fact they were now banned all over the world.

Many of them were on scholarship so Im sure an extra $10k or whatever was totally worth it to them since they werent doing anything illegal.

If I remember correctly they only played on the weekends. Don't forget the players also had the casinos sucking their dicks.

I thought the ones who played were only given a cut..it was those who "invested" on the back end that made the money.

Wow. Get banned from every cardroom for a measly 10%. How much did they stake them with?

In the book "Bringing down the house" they didn't have anywhere near 60 people.

It sure beats working at McDonalds. Oh, and did they include all the free beverages they were able to get at the casino?

I just don't get why it is "ILLEGAL" to count cards...

In my mind it is not cheating, it is not like you'd have Xray glasses, your laptop on even a note pad on the table where you are taking notes... everything is in the head of the player. ..

They just have to shuffle the packs more often or whatever...

If a guy is able to keep tracking of what's happening on the table.. good for him

It's not illegal but once you start winning all the time the casinos ban you.

It is not illegal to count cards...it's just casinos exercising their right to refuse service to whoever they want to.

People here in Nevada have even started suing some of the casinos for false arrest etc because of how security has been handling this issue along with the metro police department and have won.

But once again being that they are a private business they can choose who they want in their casinos.
